ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ — Criminal cases for two Talbot County teens have moved to the Talbot County Circuit Court from the Talbot County District Court.
Nihjay Greene, 18, of Trappe, and Aamad Turner, 19, of Easton, were charged at the end of 2024 for their alleged involvement in multiple vehicle break-ins and thefts that occurred at the end of December in the La Trappe Heights community in Trappe.
Greene was charged with six counts of fourth-degree burglary, six counts of rogue and vagabond, theft, malicious destruction of property, second-degree assault, resisting or interfering with arrest, and obstructing and hindering.
Turner was charged with six counts of fourth-degree burglary, six counts of rogue and vagabond, theft, malicious destruction of property and obstructing and hindering.
Monday, the state entered nolle prosequi for all of Greene and Turner’s charges in the district court. This means the state will not prosecute for those charges.
In an interview Monday, Talbot County State’s Attorney Joseph Coale said the charges against Greene and Turner will be recharged in the Talbot County Circuit Court. Coale said this process is standard practice for more complex district court cases that move to the circuit court.
According to Maryland Court records, the charges against both Greene and Turner have been filed in the circuit court.
The charges stem from an incident on Dec. 30 where deputies responded to a report of an attempted vehicle break-in in the 3800 block of Seymour Drive in Trappe. According to a Jan. 3 news release from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, deputies determined after further investigation that three men wearing all black clothing and masks attempted to enter multiple vehicles, stealing various items.
Police said the same day, deputies were dispatched to Harrison Circle in Trappe, where a resident noticed three men dressed in black clothing and wearing masks looking into vehicles.
Police said the three men barricaded themselves in a residence in the 3900 block of Main Street and after a short time, deputies were able to make contact with them. Police identified the three men as Greene, Turner and a 16-year-old boy, who was not named by the sheriff’s office.
In January, the Sheriff’s Office said the 16-year-old was charged with the same offenses as Turner and referred to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, where he was released to a guardian.
The Sheriff’s Office said Greene attempted to resist arrest and assaulted a deputy as he was being detained.
According to the news release, deputies found evidence during the investigation that also connected the three teens to vehicle break-ins that occurred in Easton earlier in 2024.
As of Monday afternoon, hearings or trials had yet to be set for Greene and Turner’s circuit court cases.
