Vice President Kamala Harris picked up a parade of celebrity endorsements in the 2024 White House race against former President Donald Trump.
In the end, they didn’t work out for her with Trump winning the Electoral College and the popular vote.
Voters anxious over the economy and inflation favored Trump.
Harris’s campaign focused on Trump’s “threats to democracy” and abortion rights. There were even some abortion rights ballot measures that passed in states carried by Trump.
Harris’ celebrity backers included Taylor Swift, LeBron James, Beyonce, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Robert De Niro, Jon Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, James Taylor, Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Jimmy Kimmel and Bruce Springsteen.
The list of celebrities opposing Trump and backing Harris — who was installed at the top of ticket after President Joe Biden was pressured to quit by Democratic donors and power brokers — was lengthy.
Some Hispanic musicians, rappers and actors were upset with comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign kept focusing on voters’ concerns about inflation — with prices up more than 20% since Harris and Biden took office in 2021.
For many voters, Harris and Democrats are viewed as the party of elites. The celebrity endorsements might have fed into that narrative.
Trump carried majorities of Hispanic men and white women and made gains with first-time voters and Hispanic women.
Trump ended up carrying Electoral College battlegrounds and won the popular votes. Harris’ also lost some voters on either side of the war in the Middle East between Israel and Iranian proxies Hamas and Hezbollah.
Supporters of Israel don’t trust Harris after she snubbed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before Congress in August.
Arab American, Muslim and antiwar voters are upset with Harris and Biden over U.S. military support for Israel and the number of deaths in Gaza in the war that sparked after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023 attacks.
Trump did enjoy some celebrity backers including Danica Patrick, Brett Favre, Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, James Woods, Joe Rogan, Dana White and ‘Dr. Phil’ McGraw.
